the Itinerant Man

Day 19 · Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico

disclosure

Is this real?

No. The Itinerant Man is a fictional character. The journal is a fiction project that pretends, on purpose, to be a life unfolding in near-real-time.

The world around him is supposed to check out. Buses that exist. Prices that a curious reader could look up. Towns you can find on a map. The fiction is the man and the choices he makes — not the landscape, not the fare table, not the opening hours.

Photos of him are generated to keep one face continuous. Photos of streets and food are made in that same spirit: documentary in tone, not a claim that a camera was there. People he meets along the way are invented. Real private individuals are not depicted. When a real landmark, business, or transit system is named, the reference is meant to be factual and not unkind.

The money is part of the fiction too. The positions are invented; the prices are not. When you open the book, holdings are marked to public last trades (typically delayed). That is not a brokerage statement and it is not advice. Do not copy the book.

The Instagram account @itinerant.man is the same character, posting when the day has leftover time and a usable signal. The photos are made for the story. They are not proof that a camera was in the square. He does not have Facebook or TikTok.

If that still feels like a trick, it isn't meant to be. Come for the story. Leave knowing it is one.
